Mixed Tape – Live in the ‘Schwa’
Saturday night saw Mixed Tape make a special, one time only appearance at Park Place in Oshawa.
The band played to a full house um, ‘full table’ and the energy level was at an all time high. At no other venue will each and every audience member get thanked, individually after each song.
The event was captured by illustrious photograhers / Dave Emilio and Jeff Raimondo through the lenses of their mobile phones. Here are a few of the highlights of the evening:
- Bassist, Dave, resting up before the show
- The Ivory Tickler, Jeff ‘Rai Rai’ Raimondo
- Bassist, Dave Emilio, Glamming it up between songs
- The Beat Master, Mark Daprato, holding it down
- Todd ‘Fuji’ Fujimoto gets serious before the final encore
- Guitarist, Todd Fujimoto, Drummer Mark Daprato between sets
- Steve and Todd, hamming it up for the Paparazzi!
- The Rhythm Section Supreme
- Mixed Tape – Rockin’ it out

Welcome Jeff
What good is a retro eighties alternative music cover band without keyboards? Well, if I must answer that question, I’d say it depends. We think we were pretty good before as drums, bass, two guitars and vocals, but we sat down and thought about it and decided keyboards would nicely round out our sound and be especially good in some songs where keys are prominent.
So welcome to Jeff ‘Rai Rai’ Raimondo, an experienced performer who has played with the likes of…well, he’s played before and also performs in an award winning comedy troupe so when the equipment breaks down at a future gig, Jeff can step in and keep everyone entertained! No pressure Jeff.
Stay tuned as we will be posting some future gigs soon. Until then, keep it retro.
Retro Alternative Online Radio
If you’re anything like us, even your vast music library can sometimes get all too familiar. So, check this out for something new. Be open, be patient, you will hear some interesting things, some you may remember, some you may have never heard, but it’s a good change once in a while. And we all know the new music being played these days can be tough to filter out the crap and find the gems. GO RETRO!
Elvis Costello – Pump It Up
Ahhh, the young Elvis. Most people say young Elvis is better looking, but I’d say that only applies to Mr Presley. (Is he still alive? He’d only be in his 70′s…I think he is … )
Anyway, the aging Elvis Costello is becoming more suave and a better dresser as well as far better goggles. Er, glasses. BUT the energy of young Elvis is unsurpassed by many if any. Check it out
Happy Holidays
We here at Mixed Tape would like to extend our warmest greetings for the Holidays and hope you all have a very happy new year!
We as a band are taking some time off from the arduous long nights of touring and rehearsing in the confines of our Drake St studio. We’re getting some well needed time with our families after our extensive 2-shows / 1-city tour in 2010.
Look out though, 2011 in shaping up to be a big year in the Mixed Tape Camp. We’re excited to get back out there, for our fans and our friends!

20 Great 80′s Songs in 2 Minutes
By no means does this encapsulate the 80′s. But I stumbled across it and it seemed like a good one to share. I’d live to have the time to put together a top 100 in 10 minutes or something….maybe one day..this year!

Psychadelic Furs – Pretty In Pink
Another early day Mixed Tape effort. Perhaps one of our stronger tunes by the shear fact we`ve played it a thousand times!
Another 80`s icon, John Hughes, Producer of so many great 80s movies with excellent soundtracks. Hughes R.I.P. was a genius when it came to entertaining the teens of the 80s.
The Cure – Just Like Heaven
One of the first songs we played together. Still a band favourite as well a fan fave – judging by the fact people always get up to dance to this one.
